The word Maha means ‘great’ in Sanskrit, Hindi and Arabic. The word Maha has been used in combination, such as in Maharajah, the Sanskrit title meaning “great ruler”, “great king”’ or “high king” and many other male and female titles of honour. From the north of Africa through the Middle East, across mountain passages and kingdoms, through India and down through South East Asia to Indonesia the meaning of this word has travelled.
